WONDERFUL TEACHERS IN A WONDERFUL WORLD

Great, my friends, here you have a new text to reflect upon, written by one of your classmates.  ENJOY:
Last Thursday, when children were leaving the school at 2pm and I was remembering when I was one of them, I met my first English teacher. I'm always so glad when I meet her. She asked me about 'my life' so I told her that I was studying 'English Teaching', in a way, because of her.
I have a good memory of her funny English Lessons. But the great thing is that we learnt having fun!!

She told me that nobody tells her that they appreciate her job (however, if she does something wrong, she can be punished); she can not be promoted or earn more money (in fact, her salary is cut down because of the government measures);... But, when she meet her ex-students and they say hello to her, she feels her job rewarded.
It's a little example just to show how the teachers labour is so bad valued in our society. That's a shame. Could it be changed?
Anyway, THANKS TO THE WONDERFUL TEACHERS WE ALL HAD/HAVE!

  1. Most of the people who don´t work as teachers don´t really know the value of this job. They think that is very easy to teach children, that they learn without difficulties and that WE, the teachers, don´t have to make any effort to make them learn.
The society has changed a lot, many years ago, teachers were respected by children and families, meanwhile nowadays it is exactly the opposite.
I am not sure if we could change "teachers labour respect", this will be very difficult. However, this people will never feel the happiness of seeing your pupils learn or their smiles when they do the activities correctly. For me, seeing children´ glad faces when they see you on the street is far enough to feel my job rewarded. If nowadays people don´t know how to appreciate our job, "ellos se lo pierden", because this job is incredible.

  2. A HUGE YES, YES, YES, YES AND YES. We are here to change the World of Education and ONE OF THE THINGS WE HAVE TO UNDERTAKE is the task of "lovingly" make our society fully appreciate why Teachers ARE SO IMPORTANT (in their hands, THAT IS, IN OUR HANDS, we will find the sharing of values and new ideas). SCHOOLS MUST BE PLACES OF LOVE, PEACE AND UNDERSTANDING, and to get there..., we have to start CHANGING FROM WITHIN, ALL AND EACH ONE OF US!!!!!!
    TEACHERS FOR EVER!!!!!!!!

  3. Wow, such a good reflection Elena. I´ve felt myself identify with your description too. One of the reasons I wanted to become a teacher was because I had one teacher during the two first years of Primary teaching who was amazing.
People who are not involved in education are not conscious about what they are missing. I´ve not experienced in a plenty way yet, but taking into account the few experiences I´ve already had I can say without doubt that being a teacher has to be a marvellous job. And the feeling of seeing that your children/ pupils are learning has to be indescribable.
For those who say that anyone can be a teacher I respond: "I don´t mind what you think, I feel so PROUD!!! of what I am that I don´t even stop to think wheter you think". "Everyone is free to think whatever he wants, but never doubt that being a teacher is one of the most difficult jobs".

Reading the post, I have remembered some of my teachers. Only three or four teachers have come to my mind. I suppose that students only remember their “special” teachers; it is the teachers that “have changed their lives” (in a good or a bad sense).

A teacher is an extremely important person in the child’s life. I think that a teacher has to have a strong personality in order to relate to his pupils. From my point of view the teacher’s personality is essential for teaching. And I believe that this personality must be special, unique!!

We are always studying the “excellent teacher’s characteristics” (the teacher has to be friendly, polite, active, motivating…) But we forget the character. A good teacher is not the friendly one that teaches a topic, the good teacher transmits his discipline, his behaviour, his character, etc. He teaches his personality!

When I was at school and at high school, I used to look at my teacher and think about his personality and his way of teaching. I didn´t know that I was going to study teacher training, but I liked to think how I would teach that lessons. Then, the idea that I drew from my “special” teachers is that YOU HAS TO LOVE WHAT YOU TEACH TO TEACH SOMETHING.

I made an obvious mistake in my last message: It must be YOU HAVE TO LOVE WHAT YOU TEACH TO TEACH SOMETHING instead of “you has…”. Sorry!

    2. Don't worry, Gonzalo, LEARNING IS MAKING MISTAKES, TEACHING IS MAKING EVEN MORE MISTAKES... Enjoy the experience, the sooner we, teachers, accept this, the better, and then, it THERE IS SO MUCH FUN IN TEACHING AND LEARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
